I used to work for 151 and handle peoples phone faults. Quite a few couldnt beleive they were speaking to an English guy.

I know they've done a fair bit of work bringing stuff back onshore. More is needed i'm guessing?

Was in a bar in Daytona a few years ago, and the barmaid was taking the piss out of my cut glass Crawley accent. After about 5 minutes, she goes "you know, I had a grandmother from Scotland" - WTF???? And a bloke sitting at the bar turned round and goes "brown saaaaauce!!". Fuckin septics.

Re: BT Indian Call Centre
so after a day at home waiting for an engineer who didn't turn up and about two hours worth of calls from my mobile complaining they've offered me the grand total of £35 off my next bill as compensation.

£10 for the engineer not turning up
£15 for the phone calls
and £10 as a gesture of goodwill

I just put the phone on speaker and get on with other stuff. When I get through I'm calm and collected. Usually does the trick.

Can't be as bad as HMRC once you've got through the options menu using voice recognition which is rubbish I swear their policy is to not answer the call for a half hour just to test your resolve!

Re: BT Indian Call Centre
Had a terrible experience with them back when I changed from dial up to broadband as they didn't stop the dial up billing for several months. I tried calling India about 8 times, registered the complaint via email twice. All a complete waste of time. What did the trick was finding the name & address of the BT Head of Customer Relations via google and writing a letter threatening to start a claim via their independent arbitrator. All sorted in 3 days.

To Talk Talk's credit, they've introduced the concept of a passphrase to bypass giving all details every time. Mine is GIGACUNT.

When I was having some trouble with my internet, I phoned Orange and they put me to a call centre in India. I couldnt understand a word he was saying, his accent combined with a shit phone line made it impossible to have a conversation.

I asked for a UK number to phone which they obliged me with...I ended up speaking to a Jock who I understood no better.

Most companies will transfer you to a UK number if you ask nicely.

Talk Talk is in a league of their own. It helps if you consider it a form of entertainment.

Spend 2x30mins with a Malay imbecile and they'll give you the chance to speak to a British ditto.

The Sky call centre in Scotland used to annoy me. They used to employ sweaties with heavy Glaswegian accents I just had to keep asking them to repeat what they were saying because they were harder to understand than Indians...

Re: BT Indian Call Centre
Woman I worked with in Malaysia is something of a cult figure in this part of the technological world - she says she was hoping to retire back to Sacramento by now but there's bucket loads of work going on moving call-centres out of what she calls "heavily accented nations" and back closer to the company's customer bases.

A lot of call centres are not even run by the companies you are calling about, but by specialist "Call Centre Operatives".

The number called identifies who a caller is trying to get information about and the computer system selects the appropriate scripts for them to work through.

They could field calls aimed at dozens of different and disparate companies every day and not have a fucking clue about either the company of the products & services.

Talk Talk call centre in India are worse I have nearly burst a blood vessel talking to them.

They don't listen to you as they don't actually understand English they just read from the script in front of them and try to understand the yes or no you reply

I tell them I have already done all the testing and they ask me have you rebooted the router, does your phone work ? (I am calling you from it etc etc
